Cosmos 1408

Cosmos 1408 was a Soviet satellite launched in 1982 that had long stopped working. On 15 November 2021 it was destroyed by a Russian anti-satellite missile test, scattering fragments across low Earth orbit. 1,802 of its fragments are now entered in the Orbital Register; all but 4 came down after 15 November 2021. The largest remaining piece, still catalogued as COSMOS 1408, re-entered on 27 October 2024 (2024-1716).
