Orbital Radar currently tracks 238 Qianfan satellites — launched in batches of 18 flat-panel spacecraft on Long March 6A and Long March 8 rockets since August 2024. Phase 1 targets 1,296 satellites for regional coverage; roughly 15,000 are licensed in total, making Qianfan the largest planned constellation after Starlink. Orbital Radar is currently tracking 238 Qianfan satellites in orbit, launched in groups of 18 since August 2024. The live counter at the top of this page updates automatically from our tracking data.
Qianfan is China's largest commercial broadband mega-constellation, built by Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology. Roughly 15,000 satellites are licensed, with Phase 1 targeting 1,296 for regional coverage. It is also called Thousand Sails, or G60 after Shanghai's technology corridor. Rarely with the naked eye — at magnitude 6–8 they are binocular objects, unlike a bright Starlink train. Shortly after each launch the fresh batch is easiest to catch. Use the overhead checker above for exact times over your location.
Not yet — we track 9,809 active Starlink satellites versus 238 Qianfan. But Qianfan's ~15,000-satellite licence makes it the largest planned constellation after Starlink. Compare on the Starlink tracker.
Several early satellites suffered thruster and gyroscope failures in orbit, and deployment paused for months while fixes were applied. Launches resumed in April 2026 — the pause is visible in the growth chart above.
Unlike state-run Guowang, Qianfan is export-oriented: trial or service agreements exist with Brazil, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Pakistan and other Belt and Road partners.
