Korea's First Journey to the Moon

Danuri — the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) — is South Korea's first spacecraft to travel beyond Earth orbit. Launched in August 2022 on a fuel-efficient ballistic lunar transfer, it entered lunar orbit in December 2022 and has been mapping the Moon ever since, carrying instruments from KARI, NASA and Korean universities.

Shadowed Craters and Space Internet

Danuri's ShadowCam — a NASA-provided camera so sensitive it can image the permanently shadowed floors of polar craters where water ice may hide — is scouting sites for future Artemis landings. The mission also ran the first deep-space test of a delay-tolerant "space internet" protocol, streaming video and images from lunar orbit.
