Sniffing for Methane
The ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) is a joint ESA/Roscosmos mission designed to detect and map trace gases in Mars's atmosphere with unprecedented sensitivity — particularly methane, which on Earth is primarily produced by biological processes. TGO can detect atmospheric constituents at concentrations as low as a few parts per trillion.
Mars Data Relay
Beyond its science mission, TGO serves as a critical communications relay for current and future Mars surface missions, including current and future ESA and international surface missions. Its colour stereo camera (CaSSIS) has captured some of the most striking high-resolution colour images of the Martian surface.
