Earth's Space-Weather Sentinel

The Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR), operated by NOAA, sits at Sun–Earth L1 about 1.5 million km sunward of Earth — the ideal vantage point to catch solar storms roughly 15 to 60 minutes before they reach us. Its solar-wind instruments provide the primary early warning that lets operators protect satellites, aviation and power grids from geomagnetic storms.

The EPIC View of Earth

DSCOVR also carries EPIC, a camera that takes daily full-disc images of the entire sunlit face of Earth from a million miles away — a modern successor to the famous "Blue Marble". Launched in 2015 after a long development history, it remains a workhorse of operational space-weather monitoring.
