ASI (Agenzia Spaziale Italiana) is Italy's national space agency and ESA's third-largest contributor. Italy has a strong aerospace industry centred around Avio (Vega rocket), Thales Alenia Space and Leonardo, making it a major European space manufacturing nation. ASI operates the COSMO-SkyMed radar constellation for defence and civil Earth observation.

Italy contributed the Cupola observation module, the Harmony and Tranquility nodes, and the Leonardo Permanent Multipurpose Module to the ISS. Italy also leads the Vega light-lift rocket programme through Avio, giving Europe dedicated small and medium satellite launch capability from the Guiana Space Centre.

Constellation of X-band synthetic aperture radar satellites for military and civil Earth observation — one of the most capable SAR systems in orbit.

ISS Modules

Italy built multiple ISS modules including Cupola (the iconic panoramic window), Harmony, Tranquility and the Leonardo storage module.

PRISMA Hyperspectral

Hyperspectral imaging satellite monitoring environmental parameters with 239 spectral channels.
