SpaceX has completed its 100th Falcon rocket launch of 2026, deploying 27 Starlink satellites and marking a significant milestone in its launch cadence.

SpaceX has successfully conducted its 100th Falcon rocket launch of the year, deploying 27 additional Starlink satellites into orbit. The launch took place on 22 August 2026, further expanding the Starlink constellation, which now comprises 10,976 satellites in total, with 9,824 operational. This achievement underscores SpaceX's rapid launch cadence and its ongoing commitment to global internet coverage. Track the latest Starlink satellites as they join the constellation.

Close Approaches in Orbit

Several close approaches have been monitored recently, including a near encounter between NUSAT-54 (BRANCA MARQUES) and FGN-100-D3 with a minimum distance of approximately 1.10 km. Such events highlight the growing congestion in low Earth orbit (LEO) and the need for effective space traffic management. The Orbital Radar Debris Map provides a real-time overview of active close approaches and potential collision risks.

Life Aboard the ISS

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - In the Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF), a United Space Alliance technician examines the attachment points for the spars on the exterior of a wing of Space Shuttle Atlantis. Reinforced Carbon Carbon (RCC) panels are mechanically attached to the wing with a series of floating joints - spars - to reduce loading on the panels caused by wing deflections. The aluminum and the metallic attachments are protected from exceeding temperature limits by internal insulation. The next launch of Atlantis will be on mission STS-114, a utilization and logistics flight to the International Space Station.

The International Space Station (ISS) is currently home to 11 astronauts, including Jessica Meir, Anna Kikina, and Pyotr Dubrov. The crew continues to conduct scientific research and maintenance activities, contributing to our understanding of long-duration spaceflight. As commercial space stations become more prevalent, NASA's astronaut training hub is expected to evolve, adapting to new operational environments and partnerships.
